Double Liberty Bench surface mount — 6-foot backless recycled plastic lumber slats with powder-coated steel frame, weathered wood finish — commercial park installation

Why the Double Liberty Bench

The Double Liberty Bench is the bigger brother of the standard Liberty Bench — same classic construction, same materials, same Michigan manufacturing, just more seating surface. Where the single Liberty uses four 2x3 recycled plastic lumber boards, the Double Liberty runs seven boards across a wider frame, giving you substantially more seat area and higher passenger capacity in the same 6-foot footprint.

Like the rest of the Liberty series, this is a backless bench. That's intentional. Backless benches are the go-to choice for transit stops, plaza walkways, event spaces, trailheads, and anywhere people sit briefly rather than settle in. Without a backrest, the bench works from either side, takes up less visual space, and fits into tight architectural footprints where a backed bench would feel bulky.

The frame is 2" square steel tubing, MIG-welded and powder-coated to stand up to UV, rust, and weather without fading or corroding. The 100% recycled plastic lumber boards are the same material used across the Advantage Outdoor Products bench lineup — no rotting, no splintering, no annual refinishing, just soap and water for maintenance. The color runs through the full thickness of the plank so scratches don't show a different color underneath.

If you need a backrest, the Caroline Mall Bench, 6ft Leisure Park Bench, and 6ft HD Leisure Park Bench all have backs. The Double Liberty is specifically for installs where backless is the right call and you want more seating capacity than the standard Liberty provides.

Also called a backless commercial bench, a plaza bench, a wide backless park bench, or a transit bench — the Double Liberty covers all of it in one classic, low-maintenance, Michigan-made design.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Both are backless commercial park benches built on AOP's classic Liberty series frame — 2" square steel tubing with 100% recycled plastic lumber slats. The difference is size and capacity. The standard Liberty Bench uses four 2x3 boards; the Double Liberty uses seven boards across a wider frame for nearly double the seating surface in the same 6-foot footprint. Pick the single Liberty for tight spaces or lower-traffic installs, and the Double Liberty when you need more seating capacity and the space to accommodate it.

  • No — the entire Liberty series is backless by design. That's intentional: backless benches are the right choice for transit stops, plazas, event spaces, and walkways where people sit for short periods and don't need back support. If you need a bench with a backrest, look at the Caroline Mall Bench, the 6ft Leisure Park Bench, or the HD Leisure Bench.

  • The Double Liberty is 6 feet long — the industry standard commercial bench length. Paired with the wider seating surface from the seven-board configuration, it provides more effective seat area than any standard 6ft bench in AOP's backless lineup.

  • The Double Liberty uses 2-inch square steel tubing, MIG-welded and powder-coated to resist rust, corrosion, and UV damage. Square tubing provides more strength and better fastening geometry than round pipe, and the 2" gauge is heavier than most lightweight backless competitors in this price range.

  • Yes. The Double Liberty uses 100% recycled plastic lumber sourced from post-consumer and post-industrial HDPE. The 2x3 boards have radius-contoured edges for comfort along the backs of thighs, and the color runs through the full thickness so scratches don't show a different color underneath. It won't rot, splinter, crack, or fade.

  • Radius lumber refers to recycled plastic planks with rounded (contoured) edges rather than sharp square edges. On a commercial bench where people sit for extended periods, the radius edges are more comfortable along the backs of the legs and reduce the chance of snagging clothing.

  • No annual maintenance is required. The recycled plastic lumber doesn't need staining, sealing, or sanding like wood does, and the powder-coated steel frame resists rust and UV damage without attention. Routine cleaning is soap and water as needed. Over a 10-year commercial lifecycle, that's meaningful cost savings compared to wood benches that need refinishing every 1-2 years.

  • Backless benches work better in a few specific scenarios: transit stops and plazas where people sit briefly and don't need back support; tight architectural spaces where a backrest would feel bulky; double-direction installs where a back would block one side; and event or festival environments where flexibility matters. For extended-sit applications like parks, libraries, or senior living areas, a bench with a back (the Leisure, Caroline, or Odyssey) is usually the better fit.

  • The bench ships with a pre-drilled frame and board-fastening hardware included. Surface-mount anchor kits are sold separately — order them with the bench if the installation is permanent. The bench weight provides enough stability for typical use without anchoring in temporary or movable setups.

  • Yes. The Double Liberty Bench is fabricated in Grand Rapids, Michigan by Advantage Outdoor Products — a family-owned manufacturer. American steel, American labor, Michigan-made. This is a key differentiator for buyers working with BABA (Build America, Buy America) compliance requirements for federal and state-funded projects.
